Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – A lithium-ion battery factory located in the Kendal New Energy Materials Industrial Park (KIP) in the Kendal Special Economic Zone (KEK) in Central Java, Indonesia, was recently completed.

According to a report by a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Jakarta, Indonesian President Joko Widodo attended the inauguration ceremony and emphasized that Indonesia has joined the ranks of countries experiencing rapid development in lithium-ion battery production. Following the signing of a cooperation agreement in Beijing, China in October 2023, the first phase of the factory's development was completed in just 10 months.

The first phase of the factory represents an investment of US$478 million and covers 12 hectares. Upon completion of the next phase, the factory is expected to make Indonesia the world's second-largest lithium-ion battery producer.

Currently, Indonesia has enormous potential to build an electric vehicle ecosystem. To facilitate production activities, utilize domestic components, attract labor, and transfer technology, the Indonesian government is actively seeking more investment in related sectors. The construction of the lithium-ion battery factory will significantly promote the development of Indonesia's electric vehicle ecosystem.

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, stated that the lithium-ion battery plant has a capacity of 80,000 tons, enough to produce batteries for 1.5 million electric vehicles. The second phase of construction will commence in early fourth quarter of this year and is expected to be completed in March 2025, increasing the total capacity to 160,000 tons.

The first batch of exports this month totaled 30.8 tons, equivalent to one finished container, fulfilling an order from Samsung. Furthermore, the plant's products have also been ordered by major international clients such as LG Panasonic and Tesla. (End)
