Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) On March 5, 2026, Mr. Benjamin Sukhanjanajit, Director-General of the Treaty and Legal Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, delivered the opening remarks at the Government Legal Advisors Roundtable Meeting entitled "Positions of Various Countries on International Law and Cyber Activities: An Asia-Pacific Perspective," hosted by the Faculty of Law of Chulalongkorn University. This meeting was jointly organized by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Faculty of Law of Chulalongkorn University, the University of Exeter (UK), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and the NATO Cooperation Centre of Excellence for Cyber Defence (CCDCOE), focusing on the practice and development of international law in cyberspace in the Asia-Pacific region.

The core purpose of the meeting was to explore the specific processes by which Asia-Pacific countries formulate their positions on the application, interpretation, and revision of international law in cyberspace. In his opening remarks, Director-General Sukhanjanajit emphasized that it is crucial for countries to clarify their relevant positions: on the one hand, it fully demonstrates the guiding role of international law in regulating responsible behavior in cyberspace; on the other hand, it significantly enhances the predictability, transparency, and stability of cyberspace, laying the foundation for maintaining peace and security through international understanding and cooperation. This roundtable brought together experts, scholars, and government representatives in the field of international law from multiple countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Participants comprised three core groups: representatives from countries that have formally formulated and published their national positions on international law in cyberspace; representatives from countries currently in the process of formulating their positions; and professionals involved in writing practical guidelines for formulating national positions. All parties exchanged in-depth views on the topics, establishing an important communication platform for the coordination and alignment of relevant rules within the region.

Notably, Thailand has already taken the lead by releasing its "National Position on the Application of International Law in Cyberspace" document on July 8, 2025. Director-General Sukhamjanaji revealed at the meeting that Thailand's next step will focus on promoting pragmatic cyber cooperation, particularly emphasizing coordinated actions at the regional level, aiming to build consensus, explore common positions, and further strengthen regional cybersecurity infrastructure.
