Indonesia officially implements its new national criminal code

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On January 5th, the Indonesian Ministry of Justice and Human Rights held a press conference to announce the formal implementation of a new national criminal code starting in January 2026, replacing the old code originating from the Dutch colonial era.

  Minister of Justice and Human Rights Supratman Andi Agtas stated at the press conference that this is a significant milestone in Indonesia's efforts to build an independent legal system and adapt to the characteristics and needs of modern society.

  In 2025, Indonesia will also approve a revised Criminal Procedure Law.

  According to the Indonesian Minister of Justice, both the new criminal code and the Criminal Procedure Law aim to balance maintaining public order with protecting human rights, laying the foundation for a transparent, modern criminal justice system that aligns with Indonesian democratic values.
