
Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency reported on the 4th that floods and landslides in multiple areas of Sumatra have resulted in 836 deaths, 2,700 injuries, and 518 missing persons.
A spokesperson for the agency stated that Aceh province saw the highest number of new deaths that day, with rescuers recovering 48 bodies from multiple landslides. North Sumatra province reported 12 new deaths, and West Sumatra province reported 6 new deaths. The total death toll in the three provinces is now as follows: Aceh 325, North Sumatra 311, and West Sumatra 200.
In addition, the disaster has damaged 10,500 houses, 536 public facilities, 25 medical facilities, 326 schools, 185 religious sites, and 295 bridges across the three provinces.
According to Indonesian media reports, the Indonesian Ministry of Rural and Underdeveloped Areas Development stated that some villages near the riverbanks have been completely destroyed by the floods, disappearing from maps entirely.
Indonesian authorities are implementing weather modification operations to reduce extreme rainfall and expedite road clearing, rescue efforts, and the transport of supplies. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has instructed all government departments to fully support disaster relief efforts, make every effort to rescue affected residents, and expedite the restoration of critical infrastructure and essential services.
The Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency stated that search and rescue operations are ongoing and no end date has been set. (End)
