  Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Hong Kong Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong Wai-lun stated on the 21st that the Hong Kong SAR government plans to acquire the ownership of residential units in seven buildings severely damaged by fire in Hung Fook Court, Tai Po, using cash or a "building-for-building" exchange method. This will utilize HK$2.8 billion from the "Tai Po Hung Fook Court Assistance Fund" and HK$4 billion from public funds, totaling HK$6.8 billion.

  On the same day, Wong Wai-lun held a press conference at the SAR government headquarters to announce the long-term housing arrangement plan for Hung Fook Court, Tai Po.

  Wong Wai-lun explained that the SAR government intends to acquire the units from owners who have not paid the land premium at HK$8,000 per square foot (1 square foot is approximately equal to 0.0929 square meters), and from owners who have paid the land premium at HK$10,500 per square foot. After the acquisition is completed, the SAR government plans to demolish the seven damaged buildings and redevelop them into parks and other facilities.

  Wong Wai-lun stated that in formulating the relevant plans, the Hong Kong SAR government hoped to consider the wishes of families affected by the fire, balancing reasonableness and fairness, meeting residents' different needs for resettlement within their original district and across districts, and making good use of public resources.

  Wong Wai-lun pointed out that the Legislative Council's Housing Affairs Committee will hold a special meeting to discuss the above arrangements.

  Secretary for Housing of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Ho Wing-yin, attended the press conference and stated that various departments of the SAR government will send staff to form a team of approximately one hundred people to answer relevant questions for homeowners until the transaction is completed.

  On November 26, 2025, a fire broke out in several residential buildings in Hung Fuk Court, Tai Po, Hong Kong, causing significant casualties. According to the latest announcement from the Hong Kong SAR Government's Medical and Health Bureau, 78 injured residents have recovered and been discharged from the hospital, and the remaining injured person is in stable condition; medical staff will continue to provide him with appropriate treatment and care.
