Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Chengdu Economic and Trade Office, Invest Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council jointly held a roundtable discussion in Chengdu on the 25th, highlighting Hong Kong's advantages in supporting the internationalization of Sichuan liquor. Representatives from relevant Hong Kong departments and industry experts gave presentations and shared their experiences. Representatives from Sichuan liquor companies and industry associations attended, discussing pathways for the international development of Sichuan liquor and deepening cooperation between the Sichuan and Hong Kong liquor industries.
To proactively align with the trend of "Sichuan liquor going global" and further promote its international development, Mr. Yau Ying-wah, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, led a delegation of Hong Kong industry representatives to Sichuan. The purpose was to promote Hong Kong's supporting policies and measures for Sichuan liquor's "going global" strategy, and to encourage Sichuan liquor to use Hong Kong as a platform and hub to expand into global markets.
In an interview with China News Service, Mr. Yau Ying-wah stated that Sichuan's liquor industry is thriving, and many of its products are not only popular with Hong Kong residents but have also had a positive impact on Hong Kong's trade development. Since abolishing wine taxes in 2008, Hong Kong has developed into a wine trade hub in the Asia-Pacific region and one of the world's largest wine auction centers. Hong Kong has accumulated rich experience in the wine trade, an advantage that can fully empower the international development of Sichuan liquor.
"Cross-border products such as baijiu coffee and baijiu ice cream are already very popular among young people in Hong Kong," Qiu Yinghua specifically mentioned. He also noted that the acceptance of baijiu is constantly increasing globally, with more and more foreigners beginning to appreciate it, providing a good opportunity for Sichuan liquor to "go global." Sichuan and Hong Kong can work together to promote baijiu culture overseas while conducting economic and trade cooperation.
Qiu Yinghua emphasized that Hong Kong's reduced spirits tax, convenient customs clearance procedures, and well-developed air hub advantages enable Hong Kong to provide strong support for Sichuan liquor to go global. Hong Kong hopes to further play its role as a "super-connector," leveraging its international advantages and combining them with the industrial foundation of Sichuan's liquor industry to promote the expansion of Sichuan liquor into international markets.
