Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Electoral Affairs Department announced on June 6 that the nomination period for the 2025 Legislative Council election closed at 5 p.m. that day. Returning officers for the 10 geographical constituencies, 28 functional constituencies, and the Election Committee received a total of 161 nomination forms during the nomination period.
Information from the HKSAR Electoral Affairs Department shows that 51 nomination forms were received for each geographical constituency, 60 for each functional constituency, and 50 for the Election Committee.
Legislative Council President Andrew Leung, speaking to the media that day, noted the diverse backgrounds and sectors of the candidates. He believes the candidates possess unique strengths and will bring their professional experience, new ideas, and policy initiatives to the new Legislative Council, injecting new energy and bringing a fresh perspective.
Leung Chun-ying stated that this election continued the healthy trend of the seventh Legislative Council, with all 90 seats being contested. "Every constituency has competition, and every sector has choices," with some constituencies experiencing even fiercer competition than the previous term. All candidates are starting on a level playing field, and they must rely on their abilities, political platforms, and dedication to serving society to determine the winner.
It is understood that the Returning Officer will determine the order of candidates' names on ballots for geographical constituencies, functional constituencies, and the Election Committee sector by drawing lots on November 7th at the Kowloon Park Sports Centre, as well as allocating designated locations for displaying election advertisements. The Candidates' Credentials Committee will publish a notice in the Gazette within 14 days after the nomination period ends, announcing the validly nominated candidates for each geographical constituency/sector. If a geographical constituency, functional constituency, or Election Committee sector is contested, voting will be held on December 7th, and the candidate numbers printed on the ballots will also be published in the Gazette notice.
