Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) Bangkok, March 1, 2026 – In response to airspace closures and flight disruptions caused by the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has officially launched its Tourism Crisis Monitoring Center. By integrating intelligence assessments and coordinating resources from various parties, the center will provide emergency assistance to travelers affected by flight delays or cancellations, while also developing both short-term response and medium-term recovery plans.
TAT Governor Thapane Kiatpaipur stated that, given the partial airspace closures in the Middle East, the agency has mobilized its overseas offices to release real-time travel information. The Tourism Crisis Monitoring Center will serve as the core coordination mechanism, overseeing communication management, passenger services, and market recovery efforts once the situation stabilizes.
According to statistics, due to the situation, 59 flights have been canceled at five major airports—Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Krabi—affecting 10 Middle East and related route operators, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad Airways. The current period coincides with Ramadan in the Middle East, a time when outbound travel demand is traditionally relatively low, which has mitigated the impact to some extent.
To protect the rights of stranded travelers, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has activated an emergency response in conjunction with airport authorities, airlines, and the Tourist Police Bureau. Suvarnabhumi Airport has set up additional assistance points and deployed more staff to provide drinking water and temporary rest areas. Airlines have arranged accommodation for most affected passengers, limiting the number of stranded individuals within the airport. Other affected airports are also providing on-site consultation and itinerary adjustment assistance through government-business cooperation.
Director Thapane also instructed the domestic marketing department to coordinate with partners in various regions to provide targeted support for stranded tourists and to plan stimulus policies for domestic tourism and high-potential alternative markets. Once the situation improves, the TAT will launch a structured recovery plan to rebuild tourist confidence and solidify Thailand's position as a reliable tourist destination.
Currently, the Tourism Crisis Monitoring Center continues to monitor the situation in the Middle East, promptly disseminating the latest information to tourism professionals and relevant parties to ensure efficient and coordinated emergency response. (End)
