Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Wittayakorn Maninet, Director-General of the Department of Domestic Trade under the Thai Ministry of Commerce, stated on November 21st that rice prices for the 2025/2026 season have rebounded significantly, with jasmine rice reaching 16,100 baht per ton, the highest level in recent years.

Previously, Thai Prime Minister Anutin had instructed relevant departments to take proactive measures to prevent a price drop due to a large influx of rice into the market at the end of the year. These measures included pledging rice stocks, delaying sales, and warehousing, aiming to stabilize prices, promote trade, and protect people's livelihoods.

As of November 20th, market data shows that the measures have begun to show results. Prices for rice with 15% moisture content have generally increased: jasmine rice at 14,700–16,100 baht per ton, Pathum Thani rice at 8,000–8,300 baht per ton, white rice at 6,300–7,200 baht per ton, and glutinous rice at 7,000–10,000 baht per ton. Compared to last week, jasmine rice saw the largest price increase, reaching 1,000 baht per ton, while white rice saw the largest increase, reaching 400 baht per ton, marking the fastest recovery in rice prices in recent years.

Vittayakorn added that the Department of Domestic Trade will collaborate with provinces in the northern, northeastern, and central regions to hold more than 50 rice trade fairs in 32 provinces, with the event continuing until April 2026. The trade fairs will facilitate direct connections between producers and markets, reduce transportation costs, broaden sales channels, and address the shortage of buyers in some areas. (End)
