Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) reports that drug smuggling seriously endangers social security and the well-being of future generations. The Myanmar government has continuously intensified its crackdown efforts, implementing measures such as strengthening patrols along major transport routes and deepening law enforcement cooperation with neighboring countries to severely punish drug-related crimes. Faced with this high-pressure crackdown, some drug traffickers attempt to bypass checkpoints and change transport routes to evade supervision, but their illegal activities are still accurately detected by the police.
On April 4, 2026, Myanmar security forces, acting on a tip from the public, learned that a group of drug traffickers were transporting drugs from Yamethin to Padan. Following a tip, authorities swiftly deployed an operation: At the Ywataw checkpoint in Natmauk Township, suspect Myo Min Aung was successfully intercepted, and his Toyota Prado was impounded. A second operation was subsequently conducted near Saingkaung Village in Natmauk Township, resulting in the arrest of suspects Min Min Khine and Hlaing Win, along with the truck involved.

During the operation, police seized a significant amount of contraband from the vehicle: 39 sacks wrapped in lime bags contained a total of 7.8 million stimulant pills, with an estimated street value of 11.7 billion kyats. To date, police have arrested three male suspects, impounded one Toyota Prado and one truck, and all related items have been sealed off according to law.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the drugs were organized and planned by fugitive suspect Kyaw Win Aung (also known as Pa Aung), originating in the Wamuhai region. After being transshipped near Buniwa village in Kalaw township, the suspect transported the drugs along the Yemetin-Pyabwe-Natmok-Magway route, intending to deliver them to Padan and then further transship them to An Township in Rakhine State.
The Myanmar authorities stated that they will pursue legal action against those arrested and continue their pursuit of the main fugitive, Kyaw Win Aung (also known as Pa Aung). To strengthen anti-drug efforts, the police encourage the public to report drug-related clues anonymously, and rewards will be given to informants providing valid information. (End)
