
Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) reports that the Myanmar government is conducting checks, investigations, and actions against foreign nationals who illegally enter border areas and participate in criminal activities such as online gambling and telecommunications fraud, and is systematically repatriating them to their countries of nationality in accordance with relevant legal procedures.
In recent repatriation operations, law enforcement agencies discovered and detained three Bangladeshi nationals. These three individuals illegally entered Myanmar via neighboring countries such as Thailand and were active near Myawaddy in Kayin State. Repatriation procedures are currently underway.
Statistics show that from January 30, 2025 to April 6, 2026, a total of 14,620 foreign nationals illegally entering Myanmar were detained in the Myawaddy region, all of whom were investigated. Of these, 13,404 have been repatriated to their countries of nationality via Thailand; of the remaining 1,216, 741 have been prosecuted under Articles 3(1)/13(1) of the Myanmar Immigration Law, and 475 have completed repatriation preparations and received proper resettlement and care.
The Myanmar government is actively cooperating with neighboring countries, regional nations, and international organizations to continuously investigate and apprehend individuals involved in telecommunications and online fraud, including foreign nationals who orchestrate these schemes, and is taking resolute and forceful measures to combat them. Simultaneously, Myanmar is coordinating efforts from all parties to ensure the safe and timely return of stranded foreign nationals and victims of human trafficking to their countries of origin.
