Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) Recently, Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe, Chief of the Myanmar Police Force and Chairman of the Working Committee for the Implementation of the Five-Year Plan to Combat Human Trafficking in Myanmar, chaired the committee's first coordination meeting in Naypyidaw to deploy and advance related work on combating human trafficking.

At the meeting, Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe stated that, according to Myanmar's Fourth Five-Year National Plan to Combat Human Trafficking (2022-2026), the 2026 action plan has been completed, covering four key areas: policy and cooperation, prevention, prosecution, and protection. The plan fully incorporates suggestions and supplementary opinions from relevant ministries, departments, security forces, and non-governmental organizations, integrating current related activities, human trafficking case handling procedures, new initiatives, and targeted measures to address changes in human trafficking patterns, ensuring the plan's scientific rigor and operability.

Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe pointed out that with the rapid development of global technology, transnational online fraud is becoming increasingly rampant, exhibiting diversified methods, including financial fraud, online gambling fraud, investment fraud, job scams, lottery fraud, and romance scams. Job scams are particularly prevalent, easily luring victims into forced labor and human trafficking traps, becoming a significant contributing factor to human trafficking and requiring focused prevention.

He also introduced an education program aimed at raising public awareness of human trafficking prevention, clarifying that various forms of publicity will be used to guide the public to be more vigilant and reduce human trafficking cases at their source.

Regarding the assistance work for overseas Myanmar citizens, Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe added that for Myanmar citizens facing difficulties while working abroad, the Myanmar government is coordinating with Myanmar embassies in relevant countries and relevant domestic ministries to fully assist them in returning to Myanmar to reunite with their families. During 2025, several individuals facing difficulties from various countries arrived in Myanmar and, through diplomatic channels and the cooperation mechanism between the National Central Bureau (NCB) and the police, sought assistance and were successfully repatriated to their respective countries.

Addressing the current new situation of human smuggling, Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe stated that, influenced by labor demand from factories in Myanmar, neighboring countries, and some ASEAN countries, human smuggling gangs are becoming increasingly organized, illegally transporting Myanmar citizens abroad to seek employment through organized operations, posing challenges to combating the crime. Therefore, based on the recommendations of relevant ministries, Myanmar is accelerating the drafting of the "Anti-Human Trafficking Law (Draft)" in order to effectively curb the illegal activities of human trafficking gangs.

During the meeting, Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe called on all parties to strengthen close cooperation in areas such as the rehabilitation of victims of human trafficking and humanitarian assistance, forming a joint force to combat it. Participants coordinated and discussed related work, after which Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe announced the successful conclusion of the meeting.
