Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On March 23, Dr. Than Soe, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement of Myanmar, chaired the 33rd Myanmar-Thailand Human Trafficking Victims Repatriation and Reintegration Case Management Conference at the Pak Royal Hotel in Yangon, simultaneously conducting a review of bilateral standard operating procedures (SOPs).

In his speech, Dr. Than Soe pointed out that since the signing of the relevant Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries on April 19, 2009, cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand in combating human trafficking has continued to deepen, especially in key areas such as human trafficking prevention, victim protection, and care, forming a coordinated effort. He emphasized that despite facing multiple challenges in the cooperation process, Myanmar has consistently worked actively with Thailand and other countries in the region to advance related work, achieving positive results to date; this bilateral cooperation not only effectively shortens the life reconstruction period for victims but also builds a sustainable livelihood support system for them, which has significant practical implications.

Ms. Sunee Srisangatrakullet, head of the Thai delegation, responded at the meeting that Thailand is fully committed to building a support system for victims of human trafficking and will continue to maintain close cooperation with Myanmar to further strengthen joint operations against human trafficking and minimize the psychological and physical harm to victims.

During the meeting, a practical achievement was also reported: a human trafficking victim repatriated from Thailand successfully received 45,000 baht in compensation, and the relevant assistance process was completed in accordance with bilateral consensus.

This meeting brought together representatives from relevant ministries and professional organizations in Myanmar and Thailand. The agenda focused on core issues such as optimizing case management, coordinating repatriation procedures, and supporting reintegration into society. It is understood that the meeting will continue discussions on March 24 to further refine bilateral cooperation measures.
