Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Ahead of the Thingyan Water Festival, a domestic edible oil market trade fair, spearheaded by the Myanmar Edible Oil Manufacturers Association and supported by the Myanmar Oilseed Crops Authority (MEOMA), will be held in Yangon. The four-day event will focus on four main categories: peanut oil, sesame oil, sunflower oil, and soybean oil, offering affordable prices to households and promoting the substitution of imports with local products.
The trade fair will be held at two locations: one in front of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) building on Min Ye Kyaw Wa Street in Lanmado Township, and the other in front of the Shwe Aung Pin residential area on Yan Shin Street in Yangjin Township. Open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
A MEOMA official told the Myanmar Global New Light of Myanmar (GNLM) that the event has two core objectives: first, to allow consumers to purchase high-quality domestic edible oils at affordable prices; and second, to demonstrate through the exhibition and sales that domestic products have the capability to substitute for imports. "To ensure quality and stable supply, our oil mills have established partnerships with farmers, strengthening the safety of edible oil crops from the source."
It is understood that the initial price for peanut oil at the trade fair is 18,500 kyats per viz, with the final price subject to slight fluctuations based on transportation and packaging costs. MEOMA has previously held approximately 10 similar events in the Yangon area during the New Year (December/January) and the Myanmar New Year (April), holding three events annually.
The official added, "Our supply is primarily geared towards household users, providing enough oil for daily use and annual reserves. We are currently unable to accept bulk purchase orders from distributors. The frequency of holding the event three times a year is precisely to facilitate families in storing their annual edible oil needs."
