Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Myanmar People's Defense Army (PDF) have jointly carried out malicious sabotage activities, attempting to disrupt regional development, interfere with government administration, and undermine local peace and stability, launching a series of destructive attacks. On February 12, the two sides used FPV suicide drones to attack Myitkyina Airport in Kachin State.
On February 20, at approximately 8:12 PM, the KIA and the PDF launched another joint attack. At the time of the attack, a Myanmar National Airlines (MNA) ATR-72-600 passenger plane was parked at Myitkyina Airport, preparing to pick up passengers bound for Mandalay. Myanmar National Airlines plays a vital role in ensuring civilian travel and facilitating the efficient flow of non-military goods. The attackers deliberately used FPV suicide drones to cause civilian casualties.
In this attack, the aircraft's nose, mid-fuselage, and tail were hit by bomb shrapnel, but the damage was relatively minor. Security personnel immediately evacuated passengers to a safe area and initiated emergency procedures. No passengers or crew members were injured in the incident.
This deliberate attack on a civilian airline responsible for public transportation and the transport of non-military supplies constitutes a war crime under the Geneva Conventions and international law. This act has sparked strong indignation and condemnation from the local population and the entire nation. Myanmar security forces are continuing regional security operations and will take resolute and effective countermeasures.
