Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – During the six-day Union Day holiday from February 12th to 17th, 2026, Myanmar's public transportation hubs experienced peak passenger flow, with Yangon Railway Station packed to capacity. Myanmar Railways added several special trains to ensure smooth travel. Reporters interviewed railway staff and passengers on site.

U Yin Min, manager of Myanmar Railways, explained that to facilitate travel for the public and government employees, the railway department added special trains during the Union Day holiday: From February 12th, special trains were launched from Yangon to Naypyidaw, Yangon to Mawlamyine, and Yangon to Pyay. Return trains began on February 17th, and air-conditioned special trains were added to popular routes such as Mawlamyine. Currently, tickets for the Yangon-Mandalay and Mandalay-Naypyidaw routes are on sale online. Full-journey tickets for the Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw routes can be purchased online one week in advance, while tickets for intermediate stations can be purchased online three days in advance. All trains were fully booked during the holiday period. In addition to regular train services, special trains have been added to ensure efficient and smooth passenger and freight transport.

He said he felt honored to serve his compatriots on Union Day, and that the special train ensured convenient travel and witnessed the country's progress towards modernization and development.

Passenger Tha Kyi Than, who frequently travels to Mawlamyine by train, prefers the comfort and quietness of the train to the bus. He mentioned that online ticketing for the Mawlamyine and Pyay routes is not yet available, requiring him to queue at the station in the early morning to buy tickets. He suggested improving the online ticketing system, enhancing network stability, and preventing duplicate ticket purchases. He also affirmed the progress of Myanmar Railways and hoped for continued service upgrades.

University student Ma Tun Nadi San, traveling with her family to visit pagodas in Pyay, praised the clean and comfortable train carriages. She suggested that the railway department continue to optimize facilities and services, and increase publicity for modernization achievements, which would not only boost tourism but also cultivate patriotism among the public.

Passenger Ko Ye Yint Aung bought tickets in advance for her holiday trip after her child's exams. He said that despite the large passenger flow, the journey was orderly and the railway has improved significantly compared to the past. The warm journey will become a precious memory for the children, and he also hopes that Myanmar Railway will continue to develop well in the future.
