The Union Election Commission of Myanmar met with a delegation from the Asia-Pacific Peace and Reconciliation Commission

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Yesterday afternoon, U Aung Soe Win, a member of the Union Election Commission of Myanmar, met with Professor Dr. Surajyat Sathirathay, Chairman of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Committee (APRC), and his delegation at the Yangon Regional Government Diplomatic Hall.

  During the meeting, Chairman Surajyat Sathirathay congratulated Myanmar on the successful holding of the first and second phases of the 2025 general election, highly praising the freedom and fairness of the electoral process, and clearly expressing his support for Myanmar's electoral process. Regarding the third phase of voting scheduled for January 25, the Chairman stated that the APRC will form an election observation team to participate in the observation work throughout the process, and will subsequently submit a formal report including investigation results, assessment opinions, and relevant recommendations based on the observations. In addition, the Chairman inquired about the progress of preparations for the third phase of the 2025 general election.

  Committee member U Aung Soe Win provided a detailed overview of the first two phases of Myanmar's 2025 general election: the first phase will be held on December 28, 2025, and the second phase will be completed on January 11, 2026. He emphasized that the entire election process will strictly adhere to legal regulations, consistently upholding the core principles of transparency, freedom, and fairness. Committee member U Aung Soe Win also introduced several measures to ensure the openness of the election, including allowing international and domestic election observer groups to monitor the entire process, ensuring transparent reporting by domestic and international media in accordance with the law, standardizing the organization of voting at each stage, promoting the standardized use of electronic voting machines, and facilitating the orderly implementation of early voting both domestically and internationally. Furthermore, he shared Myanmar's practical experience in electoral system reform and highlighted the various preparatory work currently underway to ensure the smooth conduct of the third phase of the election. During the meeting, Committee member U Aung Soe Win formally invited the delegation to observe the third phase of the election on January 25.

  Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the third phase of the general election and deepening cooperation with the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Commission, reaching several points of consensus.

  U Khin Maung Kyaw, chairman of the Yangon Regional Election Subcommittee, and relevant officials from both sides attended the meeting.
