
Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The third coordination meeting of the Steering Committee of the Youth Peace Forum was held yesterday in Naypyidaw.
Lieutenant General Yar Pier, Federal Minister and Chairman of the Committee, U Maung Maung Oun, Federal Minister of Information and Vice Chairman of the Committee, and Lieutenant General Min Naing, Secretary of the National Unity and Peace Negotiations Committee (NSPNC), attended the meeting. Committee members, deputy ministers, and permanent secretaries also participated. Ministers of Social Affairs from various regions and states attended the meeting via video conference.
At the meeting, Federal Minister Lieutenant General Yar Pier pointed out that the upcoming Youth Peace Forum will clarify the important role of youth in the peace process. The core objective of the forum is to discover and cultivate outstanding young talent, promote the deep participation of youth in national construction, and build a linkage mechanism between peacebuilding and youth development. He emphasized that peace is a prerequisite for the growth and development of youth, and youth cultivation is the foundation for creating a peaceful environment. The forum will also focus on key issues such as creating a harmonious environment and cultivating youth character, and through building an exchange platform, it will discover youth creativity and cultivate a high-quality youth force for the future of the country.
Secretary-General Lieutenant General Min Naing gave a brief explanation of the forum's preparations, including the approval process to be advanced, the forum's organizational format—with discussions led entirely by young people, the forum's core purpose (strengthening the future role of youth), and the overall arrangements for various preparatory tasks.
Following this, the Deputy Ministers, members of the Naypyidaw Committee, the Permanent Secretary, the Director-General, and the Ministers of Social Affairs from various regions and states discussed the division of responsibilities among their respective departments. Committee Vice-Chairman U Maung Maung Oun emphasized the national significance of the forum, stressing that it is an important manifestation of the government's emphasis on youth development. It not only provides a platform for young people to participate in building safe and peaceful communities but also helps to solidify the foundation of trust between youth and the government, and between the people and the government, clarifying the core messages to be conveyed to young people.
Finally, Lieutenant General Yar Pier, Chairman of the Steering Committee, delivered a concluding speech and declared the meeting closed.
It is understood that this Youth Peace Forum highly values the leading role of youth in nation-building, aiming to integrate the vitality of youth into the national peace-building process in an efficient and pragmatic way. The forum will focus on several key topics, accurately grasping the demands of young people and building consensus among them to provide support for the formulation of subsequent youth development plans. These topics include: conflict cases and their impact on the peace process, youth safety and protection, gender-sensitive issues, challenges and solutions for public participation in the peace process, economic challenges and employment opportunities, continuing education opportunities and education gaps, pathways for youth participation in anti-drug work, the role of young people in artificial intelligence, the internet and social media, and young people's views and demands on peacebuilding.
