Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the morning of December 14, 2025, the government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar held a press conference at Studio A of Myanmar Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on Pyay Road, Kamayu Township, Yangon Region, focusing on the national-level efforts to prevent telecom fraud. Major General Zaw Min Tun, head of the Information Group of the National Defense and Security Committee and Deputy Minister of Information, led relevant officials to attend and answered questions from the media.

Major General Zaw Min Tun first explained the government's actions against telecom fraud and online gambling. He pointed out that telecom fraud and online gambling did not originate in Myanmar, and media reports have repeatedly clarified that these illegal activities are actually carried out by groups controlled by armed organizations in border areas. The Myanmar government has consistently and explicitly prohibited such illegal activities and actively cooperates with the international community in combating them.

He further clarified the background: Following the 2020 general election fraud, the Myanmar Armed Forces took over national affairs. Some ethnic armed groups took advantage of the political turmoil to provide weapons and military training to those involved in violent riots, seriously undermining local security and the rule of law. Against this backdrop, online fraud activities in areas with weak security and prevention measures have been on the rise. In 2022, following the discovery of illegal activities such as telecom fraud and online gambling in the Laogai region of northern Shan State, Myanmar and China quickly established a joint working group to jointly combat these activities. Foreign citizens who illegally entered the country to participate in such activities have been repatriated according to law.

Major General Zaw Min Tun further detailed the specific measures taken: information sharing between the Myanmar Ministry of Home Affairs' police force and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security enabled the precise identification and arrest of suspects, strengthening the rule of law in both countries; the use of the Myanmar-Thailand-China trilateral cooperation mechanism effectively combated forced labor related to telecom fraud and online gambling in border areas; the complete demolition of illegal buildings in Myawaddy Township curbed the breeding of such crimes at their source; and the Myanmar government clarified its continued commitment to policies and implementation methods for combating online fraud and gambling.

At the press conference, Major General Aung Kyaw Kyaw, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of Myanmar, elaborated on Myanmar's arduous efforts in combating telecom fraud and online gambling; Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe, Chief of the Myanmar Police Force, introduced the practical work on preventing human trafficking and eradicating drug crimes.

At the end of the press conference, all attendees viewed materials seized during the operation, as well as documentary photos displayed in the hall. The attendees were diverse, including members of the Defense and Security Committee's Information Group, ambassadors and officials from foreign embassies in Yangon, representatives from various departments, as well as journalists from local news agencies, daily newspapers, television stations, and foreign news organizations based in Yangon.
