A statement published on the 6th by the Myanmar state-run media outlet, the *Myanmar Global New Light of Myanmar*, by the Defense and Security Council's Press Information Group, stated that Myint Swe's condition worsened in July, exhibiting symptoms such as weight loss, loss of appetite, fever, and cognitive decline, and he was placed in intensive care in Naypyidaw.
The statement said that in early 2023, Myint Swe began experiencing slow movement and difficulty eating and absorbing nutrients. A special medical team composed of specialists conducted a comprehensive medical examination, and he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. Myint Swe received treatment in Singapore in April 2024.
Myint Swe was born in Mandalay Region, Myanmar in 1951. He became Myanmar's First Vice President in 2016. In 2021, after then-President Win Myint was detained, Myint Swe became Acting President. On July 22, 2024, Myanmar Radio and Television reported that Myint Swe would hand over the duties of acting president to the chairman of the State Governing Council of Myanmar due to health reasons.
