
Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On April 3, a working delegation from Myanmar's Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held a working meeting with the Vietnamese rescue team at the Disaster Management Center. The aim was to exchange information and plan for the next phase of rescue efforts.
According to the head of the Vietnamese rescue team, the Vietnam People's Army rescue team rescued one survivor the previous day and recovered 17 bodies from collapsed hospitals, high-rise buildings, and other locations.
Myanmar's Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Soe Win, highly praised the support of the Vietnamese rescue team, especially their efforts in rescuing those trapped at the Aychantha Hotel, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Vietnamese government, people, and rescue team.
Furthermore, Myanmar thanked Vietnam for sending a rescue team and providing $300,000 in emergency aid to assist in Myanmar's earthquake recovery and reconstruction efforts. The Vietnamese rescue team also donated $5,000 to aid the people of Myanmar.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the earthquake a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, the highest level, and is urgently seeking $8 million to treat the injured and prevent disease outbreaks within 30 days.
According to the Myanmar military government, as of April 3, the death toll from the earthquake had reached over 3,000, with thousands injured and more than 370 missing. Structurally fragile buildings continued to collapse due to aftershocks.
