Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – According to a report by the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian Parliament has passed legislation concerning the cross-border metro system between Johor and Singapore, establishing a comprehensive legal framework for its operation. This move is seen as a strategic measure to alleviate traffic congestion along the Johor-Singapore Causeway and promote bilateral economic connectivity.

Malaysian Deputy Home Minister Shamsul Anuar stated that the project is a significant milestone in regional transportation infrastructure development. The line is designed to carry 10,000 passengers per hour, and once operational, travel time between the two cities will be drastically reduced from the current 2-4 hours to approximately 5 minutes.

The legislation, based on three pillars—authorization, supplementation, and protection—establishes a reciprocal immunity mechanism for personnel in both countries: Malaysian nationals performing duties in Singapore will be exempt from local legal prosecution while remaining subject to Malaysian law.

This legislation is a concrete implementation of the bilateral agreement signed by the two countries at the end of 2025. Currently, relevant legal procedures are being continuously improved, and comprehensive transportation plans, including the expansion of shuttle bus routes, are being promoted simultaneously, preparing for the project's official opening and operation scheduled for early 2027.
