
Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the afternoon of December 24, a meeting of the Secretariat of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) was held at the border area between Pailin Province, Cambodia, and Chanthaburi Province, Thailand. The meeting aimed to lay the groundwork for the upcoming third special meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee, to be held on December 27, conducting preliminary consultations and exchanging relevant documents.
The core issue of this Secretariat meeting focused on the security and diplomatic reconstruction of the two countries. Delegations from both sides conducted in-depth discussions on promoting a cessation of hostilities, seeking to restore stability along the border, and normalizing bilateral relations.
The meeting was co-chaired by high-level representatives from both Cambodia and Thailand. The Cambodian delegation was led by Yang Prat, Chairman of the Secretariat of the Cambodian General Border Committee; the Thai delegation was led by Major General Nattapong Prakhai, Chairman of the Secretariat of the Thai General Border Committee.
To ensure the transparency and impartiality of the dialogue, the ASEAN Observer Group (AOT) monitored the entire meeting on-site.
According to the agenda, this preparatory meeting will continue until December 26. The outcomes of the meeting will be directly submitted to the third special meeting on the 27th, serving as an important basis for high-level decision-making by both sides.
Analysts believe that the successful holding of this Secretariat meeting sends a positive signal that Cambodia and Thailand are committed to easing border tensions through dialogue and jointly maintaining regional peace and stability, marking a crucial step in putting bilateral relations back on track.
