Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the 10th local time, the "2026 Happy Chinese New Year: Water Charm of Jiangsu" cultural and tourism promotion event, co-organized by the Berlin Chinese Cultural Center and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, was held at the Berlin Chinese Cultural Center.
The event, taking the "Happy Chinese New Year" as an opportunity and "Water Charm of Jiangsu" as its theme, combined cultural and tourism promotion, intangible cultural heritage displays, and artistic performances.
That evening, guests first watched a promotional video for "Water Charm of Jiangsu." Following this, Jiangsu artists performed an erhu solo of "Jasmine Blossoms" and a rod puppet show, "Chang'e Spreads Her Sleeves," using melodious tunes to depict the unique atmosphere of the Jiangnan water towns and vividly interpreting traditional Chinese mythology, winning enthusiastic applause from the audience.
In his speech, He Wenbo, Deputy Director of the Berlin Chinese Cultural Center, stated that Jiangsu is not only one of China's most economically dynamic provinces but also a culturally rich province with profound humanistic heritage. This cultural and tourism promotion event presents a three-dimensional, vivid, and approachable Jiangsu to the German public.
In his address, Li Qi, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Germany, pointed out that the Spring Festival carries the cultural connotations of bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming the new, and pursuing a better life. Jiangsu, located in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, is rich in resources and is an important economic, cultural, and tourism province in China. For many years, Jiangsu and Germany have maintained close cooperation in economic, trade, and cultural fields. He hoped that this event would allow more German friends to get closer to Jiangsu, understand China, and discover new cooperation opportunities through exchanges.
Li Chuan, Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, gave a special presentation on Jiangsu's culture and tourism, systematically introducing the unique charm of "Watery Jiangsu" from four aspects: "the beauty of scenery, the beauty of cuisine, the beauty of culture, and the beauty of life."
Thomas Furch, Secretary General of the Berlin branch of the Skaul Tourism Owners Club, stated that Jiangsu has a long history and abundant resources. The club is willing to leverage its world-class tourism industry network to actively promote in-depth exchanges between Jiangsu and Europe in tourism product development, marketing, and industry cooperation.
Mathias Müller, former General Manager of the German Center in Taicang, Jiangsu Province, reminisced about his 25 years of work and life in Taicang. He stated that Jiangsu and Germany have a long-standing and close cooperative relationship in shipping, industry, and the economy, attracting numerous German-invested enterprises and forming a mature industrial base. The rich and diverse Sino-German cultural, sports, and youth exchange activities fostered an open and diverse cultural atmosphere. These experiences laid a solid foundation for him to return to Germany and establish his company. He also encouraged those who have never visited China to come and experience its beautiful scenery and rich culture, and extended New Year's greetings to the guests in Chinese.
Xu Yanyan, Head of European Affairs at China Travel Service (Jiangsu) International Travel Service Co., Ltd., gave a special presentation on Jiangsu's inbound tourism routes to the European market.
The concurrently held "Water Charm of Jiangsu" cultural tourism exhibition, themed "Farewell to the Old Year, Welcome the New Year," showcased 40 representative works of Jiangsu's intangible cultural heritage, covering New Year paintings, window decorations, Kunqu Opera, calligraphy, tea art, as well as Huishan clay figurines and Suzhou embroidery fans. On opening day, several interactive experiences were set up, including calligraphy, tea ceremony, and face painting. Meanwhile, a live performance of Jiangnan silk and bamboo music added to the cultural atmosphere of the Jiangnan water towns.
Attendees Claudia said that the event gave her a more intuitive understanding of the Spring Festival, learning that it comes later than the Western New Year and corresponds to a different zodiac animal each year. She was also attracted by Jiangsu's natural scenery and culture, which inspired her interest in visiting the region in the future.
