Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Cambodian Interior Ministry spokesman Du Sokhonn told Reuters on February 2 that the Cambodian government is escalating its crackdown on telecom fraud and illegal online gambling, and has formally pledged to eradicate these illegal industries within the country by April.
This statement is a response to recent Thai disclosures regarding cross-border criminal activities. Previously, the Thai military, in an operation targeting the Thai-Cambodian border region, claimed to have discovered a large-scale transnational fraud operation in the Osma district of Oddar Meanchey province, Cambodia, and seized key evidence including lists of potential victims, contact information, and fraud scripts.
The Thai report indicated that these operations housed thousands of people, including numerous victims of human trafficking, coerced into engaging in illegal online criminal activities.
Du Sokhonn emphasized that the Cambodian government highly values the rule of law in border areas. Despite previous disagreements on operational details, Cambodia's stance on maintaining regional security and cracking down on illegal crime remains consistent and firm.
