Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Police in Valais, Switzerland, reported on the 5th that the identities of all 116 injured in the fire at the "Constellation" bar in Cron-Montana have been confirmed, with 83 still receiving treatment in hospitals. Valais police had previously reported that the total number of fatalities in the fire was 40, all of whom had been identified, including several foreigners and many minors.
According to the Valais police report on the 5th, the 116 injured include 68 Swiss citizens, 21 French citizens, 10 Italian citizens, 4 Serbian citizens, 2 Polish citizens, and citizens from Belgium, Portugal, the Czech Republic, and Australia.
Police reported that 83 of the injured are still receiving treatment in hospitals due to severe burns. The Swiss Federal Civil Protection Office reported that 38 injured have been transferred to hospitals or clinics abroad.
According to a statement released by the Valais Canton Police on the evening of March 4th, the identities of all 40 victims have been confirmed. These include 21 Swiss citizens, 9 French citizens (one of whom held dual French and Swiss citizenship, and another held French, Israeli, and British citizenship), 6 Italian citizens (one of whom held dual Italian and UAE citizenship), and one each from Belgium, Portugal, Romania, and Turkey.
The statement said the victims were between 14 and 39 years old, with an average age of 19, and included several minors.
Reuters and AFP reported that the first batch of bodies of foreign victims had been transferred. On the evening of March 5th, planes carrying the bodies of Italian victims arrived at Milan and Rome airports, where Italian officials and relatives of the victims waited.
Swiss police announced on March 4th that they had concluded their preliminary investigation and had not taken any coercive measures against the two operators of the "Constellation" bar. Valais Canton Attorney General Pugh stated that day that someone had filmed the first few seconds of the fire inside the bar with a mobile phone, supporting the hypothesis that the fire started in the ceiling.
Swiss media reported that the "Constellation" bar underwent renovations in 2015, including the installation of sound-absorbing foam panels on the roof, believed to have caused the fire, and narrowing the basement staircase. The bar was originally scheduled for another round of renovations and expansion in 2026.
The "Constellation" bar, located in the southern Swiss ski resort of Cronmontana, caught fire early on January 1st. At the time of the fire, a large number of people had gathered inside for New Year's celebrations, resulting in one of the deadliest accidents in the country's history. Swiss Federal President Palmer declared a national day of mourning on January 9th. (End)
