Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On January 2, 2026, the Seoul Central District Court issued an additional arrest warrant for former President Yoon Seok-youl on charges of general treason, citing the possibility of him destroying evidence. As a result, Yoon Seok-youl's detention period was extended from January 18th to a maximum of six months.

According to previous reports, Yoon Seok-youl was indicted and detained by prosecutors in January 2025, but the court subsequently revoked the detention order, and he was released in March. In July 2025, Yoon Seok-youl was detained again on charges including obstructing the execution of special official duties, and was indicted on July 19th of the same month.

On November 10, 2025, the special prosecutor's team filed additional indictments on charges of general treason and abuse of power obstructing the exercise of authority. On December 23, the Seoul Central District Court conducted a pre-arrest interrogation of Yoon Seok-youl, namely a review of the necessity of the arrest. During questioning, the special prosecutor emphasized the seriousness of Yoon Suk-yue's alleged crimes and the risk of evidence destruction. However, Yoon Suk-yue's side maintained that the charge of facilitating the enemy was not established, and his representative issued a statement saying that the facts of the crime alleged by the prosecution had not been adequately explained.

It is understood that Yoon Suk-yue's detention period was originally scheduled to end on the 18th of this month, but with the additional arrest warrant, he could be detained for a maximum of six months. (End)
