Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – From November 10th to 21st, local time, the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) was held in Belém, Brazil. On the afternoon of the 10th, the "Beautiful Bays, Better Life" Marine Ecological Civilization Storytelling Event and the release of the "China Sustainable Development Report (2025)" were held at the China Pavilion of the conference.
In his speech, Li Gao, Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment, stated that the ocean covers approximately 71% of the Earth's surface and is the cradle of life and the source of human civilization. In recent years, China has coordinated efforts to increase carbon sequestration and reduce emissions in the marine sector. The "Blue Circulation" marine plastic waste management and resource utilization model won the UN "Champions of the Earth Award." China has also coordinated efforts to prevent and control pollution in nearshore waters, protect and restore the ecosystem, and improve the coastal environment, creating beautiful bays characterized by "clear waters, clean beaches, abundant fish and seagulls, and harmony between humans and the sea." Furthermore, China has continuously promoted South-South cooperation, jointly building platforms such as marine joint laboratories and joint observation stations, playing a vital role in promoting global marine ecological civilization.
Yu Yingfu, Vice President of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, stated that we should build consensus on ocean governance and establish a global blue partnership; expand dialogue and exchange platforms and improve cooperation mechanisms for ocean governance; and stimulate public participation to form a powerful synergy for ocean governance. The China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration is willing to work with countries around the world and UN agencies to create a more influential international exchange platform for ocean governance, jointly tell the story of protecting marine ecology and promoting sustainable development, and make new contributions to building a community of life on Earth.
Zhang Chuanlun, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the International Large-Scale Scientific Program on Negative Ocean Emissions, explained in detail the triple benefits of "negative ocean emissions"—climate, ecological, and socio-economic—and proposed a universal path to translate scientific principles into practice, providing Chinese wisdom and solutions for global climate governance and the construction of beautiful bays.
Shi Tianjie, Associate Director and Professor of the Master of Science in Sustainable Development Management at Columbia University, believes that the impact of the natural environment on human physical and mental health has long been scientifically proven. Both China and Brazil have long histories of maritime civilization; we must properly manage the interaction between human activities and marine ecosystems to maintain a balance among society, ecology, and the economy.
He Boxing, Director of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, shared Xiamen's governance case study via video. He recounted how, over the past 40 years, starting with the comprehensive management of Yundang Lake, Xiamen has built a comprehensive framework for protection and governance from mountaintops to the ocean, forging a path of ecological civilization practice that coordinates high-quality development and high-level protection, promoting harmony between humanity and the sea.
The State Grid Corporation of China released its "Contribution Report on Implementing Global Security Initiatives" at the event. The report showcased, through multiple case studies, the State Grid's measures and achievements in strengthening national energy security, serving national economic security, supporting national ecological security, and promoting synergistic effects in international energy security.
This event was guided by the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration and the Department of Marine Ecology and Environment of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and hosted by the China Center for International Economic Exchanges and Xufang International Media of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, with support from the State Grid Corporation of China, JD Logistics Co., Ltd., and Philips (China) Investment Co., Ltd. More than 100 Chinese and foreign guests attending COP30 participated in the event. (End)
