Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Academician Zhao Yuping of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Honorary President of Peking Union Medical College Hospital recently led a team to successfully perform surgery in Macau on a patient with an insulinoma complicated by gallstones. This surgery is the first fourth-generation da Vinci multi-port robotic surgery performed in Macau.
According to reports, Peking Union Medical College Hospital and the Peking Union Medical College Hospital Macau Medical Center formed a multidisciplinary team and developed a "one-surgery, holistic solution" plan through remote consultation. The Macau SAR Government Health Bureau and Conde de São Januário Hospital actively cooperated, facilitating the team's timely licensing process.
During the surgery, the patient's pancreas had a unique structure, with the tail embedded in the splenic hilum and surrounded by abundant blood vessels, making spleen preservation extremely difficult. The team weighed the surgical difficulty against safety, adhering to a spleen-preserving strategy. Within a confined anatomical space, they meticulously dissected more than 20 splenic arteries and veins, successfully removing the tumor while completely preserving the spleen. The gallbladder was removed simultaneously, and the entire procedure lasted 4 hours. The patient was able to walk the day after surgery and recovered well.
The Union Medical College Hospital (Macau) stated that the surgery marks the official launch of its expert pool cooperation mechanism. Moving forward, it will continue to deepen its cooperation with Peking Union Medical College Hospital, introducing more advanced and complex surgical procedures and cutting-edge medical technologies to help improve the level of medical services in Macau.
