Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – Singapore and Germany have decided to upgrade their bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership to further promote close cooperation in areas of common concern, such as security, artificial intelligence (AI), and clean energy.

According to a report by the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Singapore, on November 18, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held bilateral talks in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and issued a joint declaration on upgrading Singapore and Germany to a strategic partnership.

A press release issued by the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the strategic partnership between Singapore and Germany covers five pillar areas: political, defense, security, and intelligence cooperation; trade, investment, transport, and digitalization; climate, green economy, and energy transition; scientific research, technology, and innovation; and multi-faceted cooperation for the future.

The joint statement emphasized that, as part of the strategic partnership, the two countries will strengthen high-level visits to address the growing "strategic concerns" between them. The militaries of both countries will strengthen cooperation in digitalization and cybersecurity, and a secure communication channel will be established for information exchange.

Singapore and Germany established the "Future Sustainability and Resilience Partnership" in 2022, pledging to strengthen cooperation in areas such as climate change, defense, and the economy. The new strategic partnership, built upon this framework, is seen as a significant milestone in bilateral relations, especially as the two countries approach the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2025.
