Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has busted two land-based drug smuggling cases within just two days, successfully seizing heroin, methamphetamine, ecstasy, and marijuana, among other drugs, with a total value exceeding S$2 million. Two men, one Malaysian and one Singaporean, have been arrested. Both cases are currently under further investigation.

According to a statement released by the ICA on Saturday, March 21, the first case occurred on the morning of Tuesday, March 17. A 29-year-old Malaysian man riding a motorcycle through the Tuas Checkpoint was stopped by ICA enforcement officers due to suspicious behavior. Several black packages suspected of containing drugs were subsequently found in the trunk of his motorcycle. The Immigration Department, in conjunction with the Central Narcotics Bureau, immediately conducted further searches, ultimately seizing 25 packages containing approximately 14 kilograms of heroin, 2.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, and 190 grams of ecstasy—a large quantity of drugs involved.

A second case followed shortly after, on Wednesday, March 18. A 29-year-old Singaporean man traveling in a Malaysian-registered vehicle was apprehended at the Woodlands Checkpoint by law enforcement officers who found approximately 81 grams of marijuana concealed near his groin. Drug paraphernalia was also found. The man was arrested on the spot.

Authorities stated that the total value of the drugs seized in the two cases exceeded S$2 million. If all of it were to enter the market, it would be enough to supply approximately 8,169 drug users for a week, posing a significant threat to society. Under Singapore's Misuse of Drugs Act, smuggling more than 15 grams of pure heroin or 250 grams of methamphetamine is punishable by death if convicted. Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) emphasized that it will continue to deepen cooperation with the Central Narcotics Bureau and other relevant law enforcement agencies to further strengthen inspections at land border crossings, strictly block the inflow of drugs and various contraband, and resolutely safeguard national security and public health.
