Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Aviation A2Z recently released its list of the world's top ten airports for 2025. Hong Kong International Airport once again shines on the international stage, ranking second globally in the 50-60 million passenger volume category, second only to Qatar's Hamad International Airport.
According to data from the Airport Authority cited by Aviation A2Z, Hong Kong International Airport handled 54.9 million passengers in the fiscal year ending March 2025, a 21.6% year-on-year increase. This figure continues to climb from 53.1 million passengers in the fiscal year ending 2024, while last year's passenger volume growth rate reached 34.3%, the fastest among all listed airports.
The agency pointed out that as one of Asia's busiest air gateways, Hong Kong International Airport, with its "strong local demand and extensive international connectivity," is one of the best-performing airports in 2025. Its advantages lie in its status as an operating base for major local airlines such as Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, and Hong Kong Express, as well as a large number of mainland Chinese airlines operating there, supported by a rich network of long-haul routes.
This evaluation focuses on airports with annual passenger traffic of 50 to 60 million. Aviation A2Z commented that these airports have achieved a good balance between scale expansion and operational efficiency, representing typical examples of aviation industry recovery and growth.
The organization further analyzed that the main factors driving passenger traffic growth at these airports include the post-pandemic industry recovery and the rebound in tourism; at the same time, as core aviation hubs, these airports are continuously expanding their international route networks, coupled with the release of local tourism demand, with Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Seattle performing particularly well.
In the competition among airports of similar size globally, Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar, ranks first, with 52.7 million passengers last year, a year-on-year increase of 15%. Aviation A2Z stated that it is "at the heart of one of the world's most extensive aviation networks." Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport ranked third. (End)
