Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) July 1st marked the 27th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. On that day, national and regional flags fluttered in the wind throughout Hong Kong's streets and alleys, numerous giant propaganda posters hung between buildings, and colorful flags bearing slogans such as "Warmly Celebrate the 27th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return to the Motherland" and "Develop New Productive Forces and Enhance International Competitiveness" were visible everywhere, creating a festive atmosphere.

Reporters observed many citizens and tourists choosing to celebrate "July 1st" by taking photos with the national and regional flags. Mr. Zhang, a citizen, told reporters that seeing the five-star red flag and regional flags hanging in the streets and alleys evoked a sense of national pride and patriotism. "The strength of the motherland is a blessing for its citizens, and I sincerely hope that Hong Kong's tomorrow will be even more prosperous and beautiful."

It is understood that to allow citizens to enjoy the anniversary atmosphere with their families and friends, the Hong Kong SAR government launched a series of celebratory activities. The Hong Kong Youth Patriotism Education Foundation held a free tram ride day on that day, allowing citizens to ride the trams on Hong Kong Island for free and unlimited times.

Zhang, a student from Guangxi visiting Hong Kong, told reporters that this was his first time visiting Hong Kong and his first time riding a tram. He felt fortunate to have his "first free tram experience" on the anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China, and found the views of Hong Kong from the tram very unique. "I'm very excited and thrilled. I want to send my blessings to Hong Kong and hope it gets better and better."

At the free tram ride day event, Acting Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Cheuk Wing-hing, stated that young people are the successors of the "One Country, Two Systems" cause. The SAR government will strengthen citizens', especially young people's, comprehensive understanding of the country's historical development and achievements from various levels, cultivating their sense of belonging and pride in the country and nation. The SAR government's Patriotism Education Working Group plans to incorporate more patriotic elements into this year's National Day activities, rooting patriotism in society and deeply embedding it in people's hearts. He mentioned that many Hong Kong civic groups have been promoting national education at the community level, hoping that this patriotic and Hong Kong-loving force will continue to grow and work hand in hand with the SAR government to spread the spirit of patriotism to every corner of society.

In addition to travel discounts, more than 2,000 Hong Kong restaurants participated in promotional activities on the anniversary day. The discounts include a 21% discount on the entire bill for dim sum, buffets, grilled fish sets, and teppanyaki meals, with some restaurants using "7" or "1" as the pricing unit.

Hong Kong Legislative Council member Tommy Cheung said that the catering industry is actively offering discounts, hoping to celebrate the 27th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland with the public.

"We saw the discount information beforehand, and our whole family planned to take the free tram to see the free museum exhibition, and then have a festive lunch with discounted food, spending this auspicious day in a joyous atmosphere," said Mr. Ma, a resident of Wan Chai, to a reporter at a restaurant, sharing his feelings about the anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. "Hong Kong has become better since the return to the motherland. Today, it's lively everywhere, and everyone is happy."

"The national flag and regional flag create a festive atmosphere; they are symbols of Hong Kong's good life," said Ms. Zhang, a Hong Kong resident, noting that "joy" is the key word for Hong Kong on July 1st. "Wishing the motherland prosperity and strength, and hoping for Hong Kong's stability and harmony." (End)
