Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the morning of April 10, 2026, the 16th Vietnam-Laos Security Cooperation Meeting was successfully held in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
This meeting provided an important platform for deepening exchanges and coordinating actions between the security forces of the two countries. Its core objectives included ensuring national security and social stability, building a peaceful and friendly border, and further consolidating the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic alignment between Vietnam and Laos.
During the talks, Pham The Tung, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, expressed hope that both sides would continue to deepen efficient and pragmatic cooperation, maintain the mechanism for regular meetings between border security and public security forces, resolutely prevent hostile and reactionary forces from using their own territories to engage in activities against the other country, resolutely curb actions that undermine the political stability and security order of the two countries, and especially safeguard the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos from interference.
Both sides jointly assessed that despite the complex and volatile global and regional situation and the overlapping challenges, the security forces of both countries have effectively implemented the minutes of the 15th Security Cooperation Meeting held in Ho Chi Minh City in March 2025, maintaining close communication and coordination in safeguarding their respective national security and promoting bilateral security cooperation.
Regarding future cooperation directions, both sides reached several consensuses: first, to continue to effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms between the security forces of the two countries; second, to strengthen the exchange of information and situations related to national security, and jointly prevent and resolve various security threats affecting overall bilateral cooperation and cooperation between the two ministries of public security; third, to maintain a coordinated stance in international and regional security cooperation forums and promote the deepening of international counter-terrorism cooperation among ASEAN countries; and fourth, to jointly ensure the security of major events to be held in Laos and Vietnam in the future.
During the meeting, Vice Minister Pham The Thong and Lao Vice Minister of Public Security En Ouanongnout formally signed the "Minutes of the 16th Vietnam-Laos Security Cooperation Meeting," formalizing the relevant consensuses into a mechanism.
