
Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – The Vientiane People's Council, at its first session, reviewed and approved the five-year reform plan for 2026-2030, establishing a core agenda focused on strengthening governance, enhancing oversight, and accelerating the socio-economic development of the capital.
The meeting fully affirmed the achievements of the previous council in maintaining social stability and improving governance, while also requiring relevant departments to further strengthen implementation and coordination to ensure the effective implementation of the new round of development goals.
Oversight and accountability were listed as key agenda items. The council approved the five-year work plans of various supervisory and auditing agencies, requiring strengthened oversight of government fiscal expenditures and the use of state-owned assets, rectification of problems discovered in audits of state-owned institutions, and recovery of outstanding payments to the state.
Regarding the rule of law, the council clarified the key legislative and judicial tasks for the next five years, approved a roadmap for drafting and revising relevant regulations, urged the judiciary to improve efficiency, accuracy, and legal rigor in handling cases, and enhance public trust in the judicial system.
The first session of the Vientiane Municipal People's Council was held from April 1st to 3rd. The closing session was chaired by Asaphanthone Siphandone, member of the Lao Party Central Committee and President of the Vientiane Municipal People's Council, and attended by party and state leaders and members of the Vientiane Municipal National Assembly.
The session reviewed and approved the election and qualification confirmation of the fifth Municipal Council members, marking the successful completion of the election process. It also approved the appointment of leaders of the Municipal Council, the Vientiane Administrative Committee, the judiciary, and the National Oversight Agency, as well as the organizational structure of the capital's administrative bodies.
Another important outcome of the session was the adoption of the Vientiane Municipal Socio-Economic Development Plan and Budget for 2026-2030.
Regarding public welfare and interaction, the Council received 18 hotline complaints, all of which have been transferred to the relevant departments for handling. In response to the recent storm disaster, the Council attached great importance to the situation, demanding that tangible assistance be provided to the affected people and that post-disaster reconstruction be accelerated.
At the closing of the session, it was emphasized that all parties must expedite the implementation of the resolutions to ensure tangible results for the development of the capital and the lives of the people. (End)
