Thailand and Japan held talks to discuss cooperation on the 140th anniversary of the agreement, focusing on clean energy

  Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On April 24, 2026, Saleum Charonsuwan, Special Envoy of Japanese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, held talks with Katsura Miyazaki, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to discuss in depth bilateral development cooperation and future strategic directions between Thailand and Japan.

  During the talks, both sides affirmed the progress made in cooperation projects between JICA and Thai institutions and reaffirmed the long-standing close and friendly relations between the two countries – 2027 will mark the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Japan highly recognized Thailand's role as an important regional partner and expressed its willingness to continue deepening cooperation with Thailand in areas such as combating online fraud and jointly carrying out regional development assistance.

  Regarding future cooperation, both sides focused on three key areas: clean energy security, human resource development related to future industries, and stability and connectivity in the Mekong sub-region. They also reached a consensus to stimulate innovation through co-creating cooperative models to achieve sustainable mutual benefit and win-win results. Furthermore, Japan has explicitly stated its support for Thailand's process of joining the OECD by 2030 and its willingness to cooperate closely in this regard. (End)
