Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) Bangkok, February 16, 2026 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will host the “2026 Wonderful Thai Chinese New Year @ Hat Yai” event in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, from February 17 to 20. Themed “The Glory of Hat Yai,” the event aims to boost the local tourism economy and further solidify Hat Yai’s core position as a leading cross-border tourism destination in the region. Ms. Thapane Kittappur, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), stated, “This festival sends a clear signal to the international market – Hat Yai is an open, resilient, and future-oriented city. As a vital cross-border hub for Thailand, Hat Yai is continuously promoting regional connectivity and high-quality tourism development, especially for tourists from Malaysia and Singapore. Following the recent floods, TAT is implementing a series of measures to restore tourist confidence and boost tourism demand, striving to establish Hat Yai as a high-value tourist destination and fully preparing to welcome global visitors.”
It is understood that this four-day event was jointly organized by the Hat Yai Municipal Government, the Songkhla Thai-Chinese Association, and local partners. Centered around Sanehhanuson Road and Thamanuvithi Road, the event transformed the city center into a large-scale festival scene integrating culture, entertainment, and consumption. The event boasts a diverse range of highlights, encompassing both traditional and modern experiences: lion and dragon dances, classical Chinese dance, and Fujian acrobatics are among the cultural performances staged in rotation, complemented by festive lanterns and celebratory fireworks to create a vibrant atmosphere; interactive DIY workshops offer visitors an immersive experience; and evening concerts feature a stellar lineup, including The Parkinson and Indigo on February 17th, Serious Bacon and Mirrr on the 18th, Getsunova and Whal & Dolph on the 19th, and Gavin D and Zom Marie headlining the evening on the 20th. In addition, over 100 food and lifestyle product stalls line the streets, achieving a deep fusion of modern entertainment and cultural heritage.
TAT anticipates that the event will attract over 50,000 visitors, generating over 50 million baht in tourism revenue, while also helping to extend tourists' stay and boosting related spending in accommodation, dining, retail, and transportation. In addition to the main venue in Hat Yai, TAT is also hosting a grand Lunar New Year celebration in Bangkok and supporting regional festivals across the country, further strengthening Thailand's global appeal as a premier destination for "cultural tourism + year-round activities."
