Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) – On January 27, 2026, Lujikorn Sangchanth, Minister of International Economic Affairs and Senior APEC Official of Thailand, chaired a preparatory meeting to coordinate the participation of relevant Thai institutions in the first APEC Senior Officials' Meeting (APEC SOM1/2026). The meeting, themed "Building an Asia-Pacific Community for Shared Prosperity," will be held in Guangzhou, China, from February 1 to 10, focusing on three priorities: openness, innovation, and cooperation.

The meeting focused on defining Thailand's position at this APEC meeting and identifying key issues requiring further attention. Thailand will continue to promote regional economic integration, firmly uphold the multilateral trading system centered on the World Trade Organization (WTO), deepen cross-regional cooperation in digital transformation and artificial intelligence, crack down on cross-border online fraud, and steadily advance the implementation of the Bangkok Bio-Circular Green Economy Goals (BCG Goals) – a significant achievement of Thailand's role as APEC host country in 2022, which will continue to be a key driver of regional cooperation.

Furthermore, Thailand will leverage this APEC meeting to prioritize structural reforms, raise trade standards, and deepen cooperation in the financial sector, thereby contributing to sustainable regional economic development. These priorities align closely with Thailand's commitments across various international frameworks, connecting with its OECD accession process and reflecting its responsibility and commitment as the host country of the World Bank Group-International Monetary Fund (IMF-WBG) Annual Meetings in October 2026.
