Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Thailand has clearly stated that it consistently respects and strictly adheres to all bilateral agreements between Thailand and Cambodia, including the Joint Declaration signed on December 27, 2025. Thailand strongly protests Cambodia's recent unfounded accusations—claiming that Thailand illegally occupied Cambodian territory and conducted military operations in multiple locations after the ceasefire agreement was reached.
Thailand emphasizes that maintaining existing troop positions after the ceasefire is a strict fulfillment of the obligation to de-escalate tensions as clearly stipulated in paragraph 2 of the Joint Declaration, and this should not be misinterpreted as territorial occupation. Based on this, Thailand strongly refutes Cambodia's false accusations of "illegally annexing territory" and urges Cambodia to immediately cease spreading such inappropriate remarks to avoid undermining the current favorable atmosphere for peaceful dialogue.
Regarding the security deployment of Thai troops after the ceasefire, Thailand points out that the relevant measures fully comply with Article 6 of the Joint Declaration. This article clearly stipulates that both sides agree not to take any provocative actions that could escalate tensions, including prohibiting any military forces from entering the other party's airspace, territory, or positions from the date the ceasefire takes effect. Thailand reiterated its firm commitment to advancing the survey and demarcation of the shared Thai-Cambodian land border, emphasizing that all legal and technical differences should be properly resolved within the framework of the Joint Border Committee (JBC). Furthermore, border-related work must be conducted in a de-escalating atmosphere and based on mutual trust. To this end, Thailand called on Cambodia to immediately implement other feasible de-escalation measures outlined in the Joint Statement, particularly advancing humanitarian demining efforts and ensuring the safety of civilians and on-site survey teams.
Thailand stated that it will make every effort to resolve differences through bilateral consultation mechanisms and plans to resume JBC activities as soon as conditions are ripe. Currently, Thailand is proceeding with the internal procedures for forming a new cabinet after the general election. Once these procedures are completed, Thailand will inform Cambodia of the proposed date and draft agenda for the next JBC meeting.
It is understood that the Chairman of the Joint Border Committee of Thailand has sent a letter to his Cambodian counterpart, fully conveying the above position and reiterating Thailand's sincere attitude and willingness to negotiate with Cambodia to reach a mutually acceptable solution for border surveying and demarcation, so as to jointly maintain lasting peace, security and prosperity in the border areas of the two countries.
