  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On January 2nd, Deputy Spokesperson for the Thai Prime Minister's Office, Airin, revealed that data from the Road Safety Command Center of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation showed that during the first three days of the Thai New Year holiday (December 30, 2025 to January 1, 2026), a total of 798 road traffic accidents occurred nationwide, resulting in 769 injuries and 145 deaths.

  She stated that the main causes of the accidents were speeding (40.18%) and drunk driving (29.45%). Motorcycles accounted for 76.92% of the accidents.

  In terms of road type, national highways accounted for 36.81% of accidents, while township and village roads accounted for 29.75%. The peak time for accidents was between 00:01 and 03:00 (25.15%). Among the casualties, the 20-29 age group accounted for the highest proportion, at 22.91%. By region, Phuket Province had the highest number of accidents and injuries nationwide, while Bangkok had the highest number of deaths.

  She stated that the Thai government has instructed relevant departments to develop return traffic plans in advance to ensure smooth road traffic and sufficient public transportation capacity. It is estimated that over 700,000 vehicles will return from various locations in the next one to two days. (End)
