Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – In response to the urgent humanitarian needs in the Cambodian-Thailand border region, the Japanese government announced approximately US$1.8 million in emergency grant aid to Cambodia to support those affected by the border conflict.

The Japanese Embassy in Cambodia announced on August 15 that this emergency grant will be implemented through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), primarily for distributing basic necessities and providing temporary shelter, among other emergency humanitarian assistance.

Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, Atsushi Ueno, stated that he and Military Attaché HARA Takashi had previously visited the border region and were deeply saddened by the immense damage caused by the conflict. He emphasized that the Japanese government firmly supports an immediate unconditional ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand and calls on all parties to resolve the dispute through dialogue and restore regional peace and stability as soon as possible.

Ambassador Ueno stressed that Japan hopes this aid will alleviate the suffering of the affected people and make a positive contribution to the peaceful resolution of the border situation. The Japanese Embassy in Cambodia will continue to dedicate itself to assisting Cambodia in restoring peace and stability in the border region and providing necessary humanitarian assistance to the affected people.
