Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On May 29, 2025, Bangkok Metropolitan Police Chief Sayan ordered the arrest of a 41-year-old Chinese man, surnamed Ma (transliteration), at a residence in Bangkok's Linh Ling district on May 28. Ma is suspected of providing accommodation, shelter, and assistance to illegal immigrants to evade arrest.

The case dates back to March 3, 2022, when immigration officials in Tak province set up a checkpoint in Mae Sot district. During the checkpoint operation, they arrested a taxi driver, Aikarara (transliteration), and three Chinese nationals who had illegally entered the country with his assistance on charges of providing accommodation, shelter, and assistance to illegal immigrants to evade arrest. The investigation revealed that between March 2 and 3, 2022, Aikarara was hired by suspect number one, Pitipat (transliteration), to transport the aforementioned Chinese nationals to their destination, Chiang Mai province.

On March 2nd at 2:00 PM, before the three Chinese nationals checked into a hotel in Mae Sot district, suspect number two, Lao Qin (phonetic spelling), called the hotel to book a room and paid in advance for the three to stay. Then, at 4:00 PM that same afternoon, suspect number three, Wirayut, arrived in a black sedan to pick up the three and take them to the hotel. Meanwhile, investigation into the financial channels revealed that behind the illegal entry of the three Chinese nationals was Ma paying Lao Qin for the hiring and hotel fees. The actions of all those involved violated Thai law, and charges were filed against them. However, Ma was not arrested and remains at large.

Subsequently, the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Department received a tip that Ma was linked to an illegal entertainment venue in Bangkok's Huai Khwang district, which catered to Chinese tourists. This venue was raided on November 5th, 2024, by officers from the Huai Khwang Police Department and the Child and Women's Protection Division, who found 31 people, including waiters, and seized a large quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Further investigation revealed that Ma was still loitering near the entertainment venue in question and residing in a residence in the Linling district. Police then arranged for his arrest. As of now, Ma has not provided any information to the police. However, through coordination with Chinese authorities, it has been learned that Ma is a member of a telecom fraud gang and had previously defrauded fellow citizens in Wuhan, Hubei Province, of over 10 billion Thai baht. He is a wanted fugitive by China and was involved in smuggling Chinese citizens into Myanmar.

Furthermore, the investigation also revealed that Aikara, a former naval officer, shot and killed a former Cambodian opposition member of parliament in the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep area on January 7, 2024. He also reportedly paid for Ma's hotel accommodation in Chiang Rai Province. Currently, police are preparing to transfer the arrested individual to the Mae Sot District Police Station for further processing.
