Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On November 11, the Vietnamese National Assembly passed the Amended Investment Law, which includes e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products in the list of industries prohibited from investment and operation. The World Health Organization (WHO) welcomed the Vietnamese National Assembly's firm stance on this issue.

A WHO representative stated that the Vietnamese National Assembly's inclusion of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products in the list of prohibited products is an important measure to protect public health.

Previously, in November 2024, the Vietnamese National Assembly issued Resolution 173/2024/QH15, prohibiting the production, operation, import, transportation, storage, and use of such products. This was a significant milestone in the field of public health and received high praise from the international community.

Angela Pratt, WHO Representative in Vietnam, noted that the WHO is deeply pleased with this resolute move by the Vietnamese National Assembly. This is a key factor in ensuring the effective implementation of Resolution 173.

The WHO emphasized that any exemptions, exceptions, or loopholes in the Investment Law or related laws could lead to unintended consequences and seriously undermine the public health benefits of prohibiting such products.

The World Health Organization stated that it will continue to support the Vietnamese government in effectively implementing and strictly enforcing the ban, contributing to protecting the younger generation from the harms of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products. (End)
