Hangzhou Customs seized 75.5 grams of ivory products from live elephants.

  Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) Recently, customs officers at Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport, under the jurisdiction of Hangzhou Customs, discovered an anomaly in the X-ray image of a passenger's baggage during the inspection of an inbound flight. The officers immediately intercepted the passenger and conducted further inspection. Upon opening the baggage, officers found four suspected ivory bracelets in a ledger inside the passenger's suitcase and one suspected ivory pendant around the passenger's neck. After identification, all items were confirmed to be ivory products from living elephants, with a total weight of 75.5 grams.

  Living elephants are listed as endangered species in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

  Customs reminds passengers that, according to CITES and the Wildlife Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, except for those legally holding an "Import and Export Permit" and completing the required customs procedures, it is prohibited to trade, carry, or mail ivory and other endangered species and their products into or out of the country. Those whose actions constitute a crime will be prosecuted according to law.
