Southeast Asia Information Harbor (www.dnyxxg.com) quoted Tunku Abdul Aziz as saying, "We have undertaken several commercial obligations, one of which is the purchase of Boeing aircraft."

Tunku Abdul Aziz pointed out that the transaction will be carried out in two phases, with Kuala Lumpur purchasing 13 aircraft in each phase, each worth US$9.5 billion.

Earlier on August 31, the United States announced a new version of the finalized trade tariff rates after months of negotiations with multiple countries to reduce tariffs. The tariff rate for Malaysian goods was set at 19%.

The new US tariff rates will take effect in a week and apply to goods imported into the United States for consumption purposes, but there are several exemptions for goods already en route.

In Southeast Asia, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Cambodia are subject to a 19% tariff rate, Vietnam 20%, Singapore 10%, and Laos and Myanmar 40%.
