
Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – On the afternoon of October 25th, Malaysian Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tan Sri Dato' Johari Bin Abdul, and his wife departed Hanoi, concluding their official visit to Vietnam.
Vu Minh Jun, Deputy Director of the National Assembly Office, and Dato Tan Yang Thai, Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam, saw Johari and his wife off at Noi Bai International Airport.
During their visit to Vietnam, Johari and his wife visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum; attended a welcoming ceremony hosted by Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, followed by talks. General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Johari separately.
Johari and his wife also visited the Temple of Literature (Quoc Zi Jian). Johari also gave an interview to the media regarding the significance of the visit and the Vietnam-Malaysia strategic partnership.
Johari's visit, taking place on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between the two countries in 2025, is of great significance. It will help consolidate and promote friendly cooperation between the two countries in various fields and deepen the cooperative relationship between the Vietnamese and Malaysian parliaments.
During Johari's visit to Vietnam, the leaders of both sides agreed that over the past half-century, bilateral relations have shown a positive momentum of development in all areas, including party-to-party, state-to-state, and people-to-people exchanges. Recently, political relations between the two countries have become increasingly close. The two countries maintain close cooperation within regional and international frameworks such as ASEAN, the United Nations, and APEC. Vietnam and Malaysia are important parts of ASEAN, working together to promote economic development and share achievements in areas such as science and technology and energy.
Vietnam attaches great importance to and hopes to vigorously promote the deepening and solidification of the Vietnam-Malaysia strategic partnership, striving to elevate bilateral relations to a new level. The Vietnamese National Assembly is willing to create favorable conditions for cooperation between the two countries. Both sides will strengthen cooperation in areas such as investment, technology, tourism and trade, and energy, thereby expanding trade space and maximizing the development of their respective comparative advantages.
To further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, both sides agreed to enhance mutual visits at all levels and high-level delegations, make good use of existing cooperation mechanisms and agreements, and contribute to consolidating strategic mutual trust and striving to increase bilateral trade to US$18 billion as soon as possible in a balanced direction; to create favorable conditions for imports and exports, and reduce the use of trade barriers.
Malaysia will assist in training and issuing halal certifications to Vietnamese localities and enterprises on halal food production processes; to create more favorable conditions for importing such products from Vietnam, and to strive for the early signing of a cooperation agreement in the halal sector. At the same time, they will explore the opening of direct air routes to boost trade and tourism development; and to advance cooperation programs on human resource development and training in areas where both countries have advantages and needs, such as science and technology, information technology, economy, and education management.
Both sides agreed to cooperate with other ASEAN countries to maintain ASEAN's position on the South China Sea issue and promote the full implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC); and to negotiate an effective, substantive Code of Conduct in the South China Sea that conforms to international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Relations between the Vietnamese and Malaysian parliaments continue to be consolidated and strengthened at the bilateral level and within the frameworks of various international and regional inter-parliamentary organizations. Both sides explored ways to facilitate the signing of cooperation agreements between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Malaysian Senate and House of Representatives, laying the foundation for further cooperation between the two countries' legislative bodies.
