
Southeast Asia Information Port News (www.dnyxxg.com) On the full moon day of Kasong (Buddha's Birthday), Myanmar, in accordance with Article 401, Paragraph (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, granted amnesty to eligible prisoners serving sentences in prisons, detention centers, and labor camps nationwide. This amnesty aims to promote the spirit of compassion and goodwill on Buddha's Birthday, help people achieve peace of mind, convey the nation's goodwill and benevolent governance philosophy, and enhance international friendship and mutual trust.
On the morning of yesterday, during Buddha's Birthday, Insein Central Prison held the first prisoner release ceremony, where 423 prisoners (including foreign citizens) who met the amnesty criteria were successfully released. The release ceremony was held in the prison's gymnasium. Several officials, including U Myo Oo, Director of the Yangon Region Prisons Department, U Ye Tun Zaw, Chief Administrator of Insein Region, and Lieutenant Colonel Myo Min Aung of the Insein Region Police Force, attended and delivered speeches, urging the released prisoners to cherish the opportunity to reform and to abide by the law and live positive lives after returning to society.
Of the 423 prisoners released from Insein Prison, 302 were male and 114 were female. After their release, they returned to their respective districts and townships via YBS buses to start new lives. In addition, seven foreign prisoners were formally transferred to the Ministry of Immigration and Population in Insein Township, and their return will be processed according to relevant regulations.
It is understood that this amnesty on Buddha's Birthday is an important measure for Myanmar to practice compassion and promote social harmony. It echoes the core spirit of the religious festival, provides prisoners with an opportunity to reintegrate into society and rebuild their lives, and demonstrates the country's commitment to humanitarianism.
