Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Myanmar Railways officially launched a six-day online ticketing service (covering Union Day and Lunar New Year) on February 1st, simultaneously promoting the implementation of the Online Railway Ticketing and Payment System (ORTP) and initiating a pilot program for online ticketing of high-speed trains on the Yangon-Naypyidaw-Mandalay railway line, providing convenience for passengers.
It is reported that starting February 1st, passengers can book train tickets online daily, with reservations available up to seven days in advance for the six-day holiday. U Yin Min Oo, Regional Manager of Yangon Central Station, stated that the online ticketing service has been well-received, with over 50 tickets sold on February 1st and over 90 on February 2nd, and passenger booking activity continues to rise. He indicated that the advantages of online ticketing—eliminating the need to visit ticket offices, saving time, and offering convenient refunds—are being increasingly recognized by passengers. Given the surge in holiday travel demand, the railway department plans to operate special trains and expressed satisfaction with the passengers' positive feedback on the online ticketing system.
The first batch of trains to have online ticket sales open on February 1st are all operated by Myanmar Railways, including the Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon Express Train 11 (upbound/downbound), the Yangon-Naypyidaw-Yangon DEMU Express Train 7 (upbound/downbound) and 31 (upbound/downbound), and the Mandalay-Naypyidaw-Mandalay Express Train 27 (upbound/downbound).
For tourists traveling to Bagan during the holiday period from February 12th to 17th, the railway department has arranged special services: trains departing from Yangon Central Station every Friday afternoon and returning from Bagan every Tuesday. It is understood that the beginning and end of the holiday period are usually peak travel times, and these arrangements better meet the travel needs of tourists.
Passengers can purchase tickets online by visiting the ORTP official website ortp.railways.gov.mm through any web browser or by scanning the QR code. After selecting the desired itinerary on the homepage, passengers can follow the system announcements and regulations to complete the ticket purchase process.
