The first phase of voting for Myanmar's 2025 multi-party democratic general election in Yangon was held.

  Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – The first phase of voting in Myanmar's 2025 multi-party democratic general election began yesterday morning at 6:00 AM at designated polling stations in Yangon. Voters cast their ballots in an orderly manner for their preferred parliamentary candidates.

  The first phase of the Yangon general election process was open and transparent, with local and foreign media allowed free coverage. Diplomats from foreign embassies in Yangon, along with local and international election observation teams, observed the entire voting process on-site to ensure the fairness of the election.

  The Yangon general election is reportedly being held in three phases, with the voting arrangements and polling station locations for each phase as follows:

  Phase 1 (Already Held): Covering 12 townships including Kamayut, Kyauktada, Thaki, Thanda, Dagon Myoti (South), Bothathorn, Mayangon, Mingaladon, Moby, Thiengam, Thanlin, and Arun, with 1313 polling stations.

  Phase 2 (January 11): Held in 16 townships including Baham, Phan Pedan, Lata, Kawum, Kongyangon, Dagon Myoti (North), Taung, Pazundam, Hlin, Shwepitha, Thanthabin, Hlainggu, South Okharapa, Kokokun, Kyimingtin, and Insein, with 1171 polling stations.

  Phase 3 (January 25): Covering Dagon, Lanmadaw, Seikyi-Khanaungto, Dala, and Dagon Myoti (Saikan). A total of 1,300 polling stations were set up in 17 townships: Myothit (Seikkan), Dagon Myothit (East), Mingala Taungnyunt, Thakayta, North Okkalapa, Tamway, Yankin, Kyauktan, Kayan, Thongwa, Sangyoung, Hlinethaya (West), and Hlinethaya (East).

  Overall, this general election will have 3,784 polling stations set up in 45 townships across Yangon Region, with 4,938,823 eligible voters participating. Regarding candidates, 982 parliamentary candidates from 20 political parties and 46 independent candidates are vying for seats.

  To ensure a free and fair election, Myanmar is using electronic voting machines (MEVM) and has also arranged for polling station supervisors, the Red Cross, and social organizations to work together to help voters complete the voting process smoothly.
