Southeast Asia Information Port (www.dnyxxg.com) – Under the new development paradigm, Quang Ngai Province in Vietnam has clearly stated its intention to simultaneously and sustainably promote the development of the "marine-tourism-services" economy. This involves fully leveraging its natural and cultural advantages to attract investment and drive the development of tourism and services, thereby injecting new momentum into socio-economic development.
Kun Tum and Quang Ngai, with their long history and unique cultural traditions, possess strong endogenous driving forces for sustainable socio-economic development. After the merger, the new Quang Ngai Province boasts a vast territory, stretching from mountains and border areas to islands, with stunning scenery connecting mountains and sea, laying a solid foundation for making tourism a key driver of economic growth in the new phase.
Integrating Forest and Marine Culture and Tourism
The resolution adopted at the First Congress of the Quang Ngai Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (2025-2030 term) clearly outlines five key tasks, including vigorously developing tourism, building Ly Son into a marine and island tourism center, and Măng Đen into an eco- and leisure resort tourism center. By integrating eco-tourism and island tourism, Quang Ngai Province hopes to make tourism a pillar industry in the new phase.
“Currently, newly established tourism companies struggle to compete with numerous professional travel agencies. Therefore, developing distinctive and differentiated tourism routes, such as those combining mountain and marine culture, will provide tourists with more choices.”
In recent years, Mangden Township's tourism infrastructure has been continuously improved, and the quality of accommodation facilities and tourism services has been guaranteed. Currently, the township has 143 accommodation establishments with 1,280 rooms, capable of accommodating over 6,000 tourists simultaneously. The construction of numerous high-quality hotels and resorts has established a unique brand image for the Mangden Ecotourism Area.
In early 2025, after the establishment of Smart Travel, its General Manager, Ms. Fan Bicao, actively collaborated with several travel agencies to develop the Mangden Ecotourism – Lishan Island Tourism Route.
Ms. Pham Bich Thao stated, “Currently, newly established tourism companies struggle to compete with numerous professional travel agencies. Therefore, developing differentiated and locally distinctive tourism routes, such as those combining mountain and marine culture, will provide tourists with more choices.”
To make tourism a significant driver of economic growth, Quang Ngai province is vigorously promoting the integrated development of “marine-tourism-services,” building an economic chain linking mountainous and island regions. In particular, it is fully leveraging the potential and advantages of tourism investment to form a “three countries, one destination” development direction centered on the “Ly Son Marine Island Tourism Center – Muong Dang Tourism Area – Sa Hoang Cultural National Key Site.”
The western mountainous region of Quang Ngai province boasts a diverse and rich ecosystem. Various localities are actively strengthening regional cooperation, fully exploring the advantages of diverse ethnic cultures, historical and cultural relics, and natural landscapes to create “mountain-sea connected” tourism routes that integrate Central Highlands culture and island culture.
Nguyen Van Huy, Chairman of the Ly Son Special Region, stated that Ly Son Island will establish tourism as a pillar industry during his new term. To fully leverage the potential and advantages of marine tourism, the local government will prioritize attracting investment in tourism and services, promoting the diversification of tourism products, and creating a distinctive local marine tourism brand.
High-Efficiency Development Potential and Advantages
The merger of Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces has brought broader administrative space and stronger development potential to the region. This strategically significant turning point has ushered in a new development pattern, organically combining the vibrant coastal region with the majestic and culturally rich Central Highlands. The spatial layout of the new Quang Ngai province achieves integrated cultural tourism development across mountains, rivers, and islands.
Currently, Quang Ngai province has 232 national and provincial historical sites. In this new development space, Quang Ngai province is vigorously exploring its natural resource advantages, tourism potential, and traditional cultural heritage, comprehensively showcasing its unique cultural and natural charm from mountains to islands.
In its future tourism development strategy, Quang Ngai province will create distinctive tourism products, achieving organic integration of "mountains and forests" and "ocean," and advancing the development strategy of "three countries, one destination."
Since the beginning of the year, Quang Ngai province has received approximately 3.5 million tourists, representing a year-on-year increase of over 15%, with tourism revenue projected to reach VND 2.1 trillion. Scenic spots such as Son My, Ly Son, Dak To-Tan Khanh, and Muong Dang, along with numerous other scenic locations, are gradually establishing a distinct position on the tourism map of the Central Highlands region. These positive signs indicate that during the new term, Quang Ngai's culture and tourism industry will usher in a new chapter of rapid development with greater vitality and dynamism.
To achieve its development goals during the new term, the Quang Ngai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has clearly stated its intention to protect, restore, and promote cultural values, integrating them with the development of the cultural industry and the creative economy to continuously enhance the quality and competitiveness of Quang Ngai tourism. Simultaneously, it is vigorously promoting digital transformation, actively applying digital technologies and artificial intelligence to build new cultural carriers such as "digital culture," "open museums," and "digital libraries" in areas such as artifact digitization, heritage display, and cultural dissemination. Currently, tourism routes from the western mountains to the eastern islands are being prioritized by Quang Ngai's tourism industry, gradually forming a new development pattern.
Localities are actively promoting regional collaboration, fully tapping into tourism potential, and have introduced numerous policies to encourage and attract strategic investors to develop integrated cultural and tourism projects encompassing urban development, services, vacations, and entertainment in areas such as the Dung Quoc-Sa Hoang coastal area and the Ly Son Special Economic Zone.
Pham Thi Truong, Director of the Quang Ngai Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated: “Under the new development pattern and spatial context, Quang Ngai Province is fully leveraging its natural and cultural resources to drive tourism growth. We will focus on attracting investment in ecotourism, leisure and vacation tourism, and community tourism, while strengthening cooperation with neighboring provinces and cities, participating in the construction of regional tourism linkages, contributing to economic growth, and making Quang Ngai Province a significant growth engine in the Central Highlands region.”
